Fashion Designing

This two year, full time, Fashion Design course is a comprehensive mix of the elements which will enable students to mould their creativity and be self-independent. It aims to prepare individuals with various activities in the areas of design, product development, and management. This course will provide a fast track into the Fashion Design Scene with a solid grounding in the knowledge of the garment industry.

Level 1- Foundation

The first semester aims at bringing the students from diverse backgrounds to a common platform of introduction & understanding of design and skills to prepare and pursue the next levels with expertise. This level also comprises of theoretical knowledge of history and nature of fashion, elements & principles of design, and of leading International & Indian designers. The gained knowledge will then be tested with quizzes and project works.

Level 2- Introduction To The Elements Of Fashion Design

Students will be taught about the science of fabrics that is textiles and its fundamentals like theory of fibers, yarns, technology of dyeing and printing, spinning, weaving etc. Apart from this, students will be acquainted with traditional arts and crafts of India in the form of embroidery. This will include history of embroidery (region specific), basic requirements of embroidery along with different techniques.

This semester also introduces the students with IT fundamentals like application and usage of Photoshop and Corel Draw-two very important softwares used in designing. Apart from this, the semester will include brief introduction to the basics of merchandising and marketing.

Level 3- Practical Application

Level 3 comprises of introduction to pattern making (basic body blocks, dart manipulations, style lines) Detailed explanation in the form of theory and practical application of patterns will be covered.
Apart from this, draping will enhance the students' understanding of the folds of the fabric and its conversion into garments.
This semester also focuses on communication skills classes to help students to be good public speakers which will be a big requirement while conversing one on one or with a group of clients for their product.

Level 4- Industry Interaction And Final Exhibition

The final level will require students to do a two month internship as upcoming designers to learn the trades of the business first hand. Further to this, students will be putting up a collection of their designed garments and exhibiting. This range will be part of their portfolio and build up as a pre-showing of the designs which they will create as qualified designers.
